Getting Started - Foldbook Studio Documentation

Welcome to Foldbook Studio. If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed looking at the interface for the first time, take a deep breath. I built this to take the math out of book folding, not to add more stress to your life.

1. The Core Workflow

Before we even touch the software, it helps to understand the big picture. Creating a folded book sculpture always follows this four-step rhythm:

🎨
Design
📄
Generate
📏
Mark
📐
Fold

2. Setting Up in the Studio

Head over to the Studio. When I'm mocking up a new idea, I usually decide right away if I need Simple Mode (for quick words or basic icons) or Advanced Mode (where I can tweak layers and precise alignments).

  • The Height: Always physically measure your book's page height. Don't guess.
  • The Page Count: Flip to the very back and find the last numbered page. Enter that number.
  • The Fun Part: Add your text or icons to the canvas and get the layout exactly how you want it.

3. Translating Digital to Physical

When you finally hit "Generate Pattern," the software does all the heavy trigonometry constraints for you. It hands you back a clean, simple list of measurements.

My Go-To: The Measure & Mark Method

I built these patterns entirely around the "Measure & Mark" method because it's hands down the quickest and most reliable. You literally just need a metric ruler and a mechanical pencil. No weird cutting templates, no protractors.
